Sinus Headaches - When Even Blinking Hurts

Sinus headaches accompany sinusitis, a condition in which the lining of your sinuses become swollen and inflamed due to allergies, infection, cold or structural issues in the sinus area. Your eyes hurt, your face hurts, your head hurts, and at times, the pressure and pain can be so intense, it may even feel like your eyelashes hurt.

Sinusitis can affect anyone. You may be more likely to develop chronic sinusitis if you have asthma, nasal polyps, allergies to dust, mold or pollen, a weak immune system, chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis, or exposure to cigarette smoke.

Often times, it's possible to confuse migraines and sinus headaches because they have similar base symptoms. And let's face it, they can both be excruciating. The primary difference in symptoms is that migraines are more likely to be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and migraine auras, while sinus headaches are usually accompanied by other sinus symptoms, such as a runny nose, a feeling of fullness in the ears, fever and facial swelling. And, oh yes, it may even hurt to blink.

Treatment of sinus headaches
is usually directed toward symptom relief and treating the infection. Treatment might include antibiotics for an infection, as well as a short period of antihistamines (such as Benadryl) or decongestants (such as Sudafed) to treat your symptoms.

If you suffer from sinus headaches and live in Alabama, Nebraska, California, Illinois, Texas, Utah or Northern Virginia, please contact us at I Hate Headaches to meet with one of our headache specialists, today.
